Beauty that surpassed the flesh

Amongst a plethora of colours sat a women covered from head to toe in a garbs more commonly worn in the outside world.
Those in the plethora of colours looked at her as if she had defied rules that grounded them all.
She felt uncomfortable with the stares, and for a short period of time wished she had just given in to these "rules" and worn a garment of brightness in colour.

Then as the beautiful verses dating back to far for her to fathom were read to her she felt at ease, rerunning the reasons for her choice in her head.
She felt more beautiful than those who had adorned themselves in layers of fabric, thousands of sequences, beads and print.

She didn't need a man to tell her she looked appealing to the eye,
Nor did she need reassurance from a friend or acquaintance,
She felt beauty that was more than skin deep.
Don't get her wrong, she wasn't saying she was on a pedestal and others not
Nor did she pity those who had decided to follow the rules,
Instead she realised that adorning herself didn't bring her the same satisfaction.

The black garb she felt covered her well and no longer felt she had to explain her reasons to anyone, she felt helpless to judgement by those around her, but who were they when looking at the bigger picture?

You looked beautiful, if only I had told you
